National Association of School Psychologist Conference

The NASP Conference is coming to Boston in 2009.

The NASP 2009 Annual Convention will be held in Boston, MA February 24–28, 2009. There are many important and exciting reasons to participate in the Boston convention as a presenter, not the least of which is the opportunity to help provide your colleagues with outstanding continuing professional development (CPD). Additionally, being a presenter as well as a consumer of CPD is one of the hallmarks of a developing career in school psychology.

Proposals may be submitted online only. NASP Convention Workshop proposals are due June 13, 2008, and all other presentation proposals are due June 27, 2008.

“Positive Youth Development: What Clinicians, Researchers, and Educations Need to Know”

“Contemporary developmental science is framed by dynamic systems theories of human development, models that emphasize the plasticity of development that derives from mutually influential relations between individuals and the multiple levels of organization of the ecology of human development. Plasticity constitutes a fundamental strength of human development and legitimates optimism that relations between individuals and contexts may be identified or promoted in order to enhance the probability of positive, healthy human development. Over the past 15 years, this strength–based approach to human development has given rise to a new vision of and approach to research and applications pertinent to adolescent development. Termed the positive youth development (PYD) perspective, this approach counters deficit models of adolescence that, in earlier eras, have been predominant conceptual lenses for research, programs, and policies pertinent to this age period. The historical and theoretical bases and key hypotheses associated with the PYD perspective, and the results of a national, longitudinal study testing the ideas associated with the PYD perspective, the 4-H Study of PYD, will be presented. Implications for research, for practice, and for advocacy in support of promoting positive development among diverse youth will be discussed.

New England CCBD 2007

Dear Colleagues,
I have developed this edublog as a means of creating a presence on the web for our organization. Our parent organization, The Council for Children with Behavior Disorders (CCBD) can be found at http://www.ccbd.net. At this website you can find a vast array of information about CCBD, current information on advocacy issues relating to IDEIA 2004, conference information as well as our great journals, Behavioral Disorders and Beyond Behavior. I welcome you all to visit it if you have not done so.

In 2005 I have a first contact with many of you and then 2006 came and we were unable to see up a meeting with the executive committee. I am again trying to get those who responded plus anyone of you who would like to be an active member to try and revive our presence. As part of the 2007 effort my hope is to:
1. Post on this blog professional development events from various areas with a particular focus on Boston where I live.
2. Post any other professional development opportunities you send me in order to keep everyone abreast of opportunities
3. Work closely with MACEC as the National Conference approaches in 2008 here in Boston, MA
4. Post possible discussion topics, lates research or other topics
5. Do mass emails to you letting you content has been added (although you can do this yourself with an RSS feed)

Please feel free to post at anytime on the blog and share it with others as you see fit. Please remember that by supporting CEC and national CCBD we can continue to receive our valuable journals Behavior Disorders and Beyond Behavior.

The 2005 International Council for Children with Behavior Disorders Conference

The conference will be held at the Omini Mandalay Hotel in Dallas Texas Spetember 22-24, 2005. Teachers, administrators, researchers, teacher trainers, staff developers, counselors, psychologists, social workers, community agency personnel, personnel who work in alternative settings (e.g., juvenile justice, residential treatment, alternative schools for disruptive students) are invited to attend this conference. NECCBD is offering $500.00 stipend if you become part of the executive committee of NECCBD and attend leadership training (must be a current NECCD member). Contact me at rinaldic@bc.edu. I will also like to update you on last year’s activities. I sent out a mass email regarding my appointment as the new president of NECCBD asking for volunteers for our board. We have had a great response from about 10 individuals interested in participating. We held our first meeting last spring and we have identified an event we would like to launch this upcoming school year. We have a couple of board members who would like to invite a speaker to speak about behavior issues in our schools. You will be receiving further information in the next few weeks. We are also exploring the possibility of collaborating on another event with MACEC and setting up volunteer opportunities as the 2008 Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) Conference and Expo approaches.
